The Lord knows His own and the Lord knows those who are not His. He will rescue His own and destroy the others. The Lord does so simultaneously. Noah and Lot are the examples Peter uses in this passage. As such, they are the example of how the Lord rescues His own while maintaining the unrighteous for destruction.
